Finals of National Mens Open

Will Boe Reaches Finals of the National Mens Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Training Center in Flushing, NY on December 31st, 2010.

One of four National Mens Open events held throughout the calendar year, Will was the 4th seeded singles player in a field of 162 players from all over the US. Will reached the finals and a chance to win a wild card into any 2011 US Future.

Unfortunately, after staging a comeback from being down 0-3 and 1-4 in the first set to make it 4-4, Will pulled a muscle in his right groin and lost the match 6-4, 6-1. However, considering Will had not played a tournament of any level over the past nine months and taught tennis at a country club in Rye, NY from seven of those months in order to save up money to afford playing a full tournament schedule in 2011, he was happy to have had a strong showing by reaching the finals; a personal best at that particular event. Not to mention, by reaching the finals of a National Mens Open Will earned enough USTA ranking points to maintained a high enough national ranking to get into the qualifying rounds of most Futures events around the world, which was the entire purpose of entering the event in the first place.
